Why Your St. George Business Website Isn’t Showing Up on Google and How to Fix It
Table of Contents:
Your website isn’t showing up on Google? There’s usually a reason…
1. Your Google Business Profile has problems
There are a bunch of things that can go wonky with your Google Business Profile. And yet your GBP is super important if you are a local business.
Here is a list of items that should be checked on your GBP, if you want more customers:
-
-
- Is the address and telephone number exactly the same on the GBP and your website?
-
-
-
- Do you have a system in place to get reviews on a consistent basis?
-
-
-
- Do you have your business services listed in your GBP?
-
-
-
- Do you have categories listed in your GBP?
-
-
-
- Do you regularly post either images or offers on your Google Business Profile?
-
Your NAP (Name, Address, and Phone number) should be consistent on the web including websites like YELP, Thumbtack, Whitepages.com, and local websites like The St. George Chamber of Commerce.
If the NAP information isn’t consistent or if it is outdated, it’s more difficult for search engines to figure out who you are and what you do.
Reviews, of course, are a major factor in getting new clients. I know that just about any slightly expensive purchase I am going to do leads me to check out the reviews and stars of the businesses. Note: Make sure you have a system to get reviews on a regular basis.

2. When your website isn’t showing up on Google, I usually find several small problems rather than one big problem.
Most, but not all, businesses take time to rank (be indexed) until Google trusts the website.
You, or your SEO/website person can speed up this process by taking the following steps:
-
-
- Post articles on your site that are service specific. This lets the search bots verify the work you do.
-
-
-
- Post articles on your site that are area specific (like the city you live in. In my case that’s St. George). This will let the search engines know where you work, so it knows which customers to send your way.
-
-
-
- Local citations are another good way to establish presence in an area. For example I am a member of the St. George Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Utah Home Builders association. Both link back to my website.
-
-
-
- Local citations part 2: You can also sponsor events in your area that have an online presence. In our area that would be events like the St George Marathon, bike races, and other similar events.
-
3. Google’s Three Local Ranking Factors
Google uses three guidelines to make sure it is sending customers to the correct local businesses:
-
-
- How well the search intent matches the business.
- How close the business is to the customer.
- How established the business is. A couple of ways to do this is to list how long you’ve been in business. Another way is through Google reviews. For example how many and how good your reviews are. Make sure you get your Google reviews up on your website.
-
4. What to Check First:
If your website isn’t showing up on Google, don’t assume you need a new website.
Here is a brief list of what I would check when looking at a business website for the first time:
-
- Has the Google Business Profile been verified with Google using the Google search console
- Does the NAP match everywhere?
- Has the GBP been filled out completely. (You might think it has but it probably hasn’t been).
- Do you have your Google analytics and Google Console set up?
- Does your website have pages with good articles that mention what services you provide? You need a new page and article for each service.
- Do you have webpages and articles that mention where you work? In my area that would be the cities, St. George, Ivins, Santa Clara, Washington, and Hurricane.
- Have all of your pages been submitted to your Google Console? Which pages aren’t indexing and why? Fix webpages that are failing Google’s criteria.
Those are a few. I could keep going, but you get the drift.
Here’s what I would suggest. Rather than thinking about all of this, hire a real SEO expert. Whether that’s me or someone else, make your life easier.

Website home page not appearing in Google Search
Hello!
I have a website, but when I search it, other pages (eg, Instagram, Youtube, even the biography page) are all appearing before my homepage. In fact, my home page isn’t even appearing on the 1st page of Google at all!
My website is WordPress.
I have Yoast SEO, and Google Search Console.
Any help would be appreciated.
FYI, I know my way around these sites, but I am no Pro. For the most part, self-taught. So please be specific on what and where to make changes, because I may not know.
My answer: These ideas should be fairly simple.
1. Use Google consule to see if your home page has been indexed.
2. If it hasn’t been indexed, re-submit it using your Google consul.
3. If it has been indexed your could try to improve the page.
* Rewrite what ever is on the page in your own words (if you used AI that is).
* This would be unusual but if you have some truely huge images on the page that could slow it down enough to get Google to ignore it.
* It could be your website host is crappy. Find out how fast your website is downloading. Too slow? fix it. Is your host delaying loading your site when it’s clicked on? Change hosts.
* Get a website audit. Fix what the audit says in broken, not working right, or missing.
